Steel City Shadespire is a place for a small group of Sheffield hobbyists to share their thoughts, opinions, strategies, and occasionally memes about Game’s Workshop’s Warhammer Underworlds competitive miniatures game (perhaps more widely known as Shadespire?) We hope that someone, somewhere, finds something at least slightly interesting in our ramblings.
What is Warhammer Underworlds: Shadespire?
Warhammer Underworlds is a 2+ player competitive miniatures game that blends elements of Games Workshop’s traditional wargames with the deckbuilding and strategic gameplay of CCGs like Magic: The Gathering. The result is a game that’s fun to play, easy to learn, and difficult to master. While the game is still in its infancy, we have high hopes for it as a robust and tactically interesting complement to Games Workshop’s main game lines.
What is the Steel City?
Sheffield, the UK’s “Steel City”, has a large gaming scene and a history of performing well in competitive miniatures gaming and other “traditional games”. With 3 well established local game stores all running frequent events, as well as gaming societies at the 2 universities, there’s plenty of opportunity for gamers to hone their skills. For Shadespire in particular the city boasts some of the country’s most adept players, as well as a robust local meta where a number of different archetypes can thrive – truly the home of tactical play in the UK.
